That was what Blu Ray and HD DVD were priced at when they were first introduced.

Seems most upcoming 4K BR disc releases do not bundle 3D disc inside....but like to watch 4K and also 3D...concern is double-dipping  ::)

Example is Martian...

Prices will drop eventually. Early adopters will just have to pay a premium as usual.

None of the titles appeal to me except the Martian, but will wait for reviews especially since Martian was shot in 2K only. Think only a few of these movies were originally shot in 4K.

Read smwhere tt the UHD prob wldnt offer much better sound, but only perhaps better pics if using a 4k TV. Wonder hw it will compare to those Sony "Mastered in 4K", which to me does offer slightly better sound n pics to ur typical bluray.

Sony's "Mastered in 4K" Blu rays are still Blu rays at the end of the day, in that the resolution is 1080p high definition. It is just mastered from a 4K source and down-converted to HD. Kinda like Superbit in the DVD days. UHD will be in actual 4K, which means that every pixel is reproduced in the disc. So visually, UHD should be superior to Blu rays, including those Sony Blu Rays, based on resolution alone. Whether this is noticeable will depend on screen size and viewing distance.

I don't think the Sony Blu rays or UHDs have better sound than normal Blu Rays. All boils down to which sounds mixes the studios decide to include on the disc. A well done Atmos or DTS X soundtrack on Blu ray should be the same as on UHD.

Not worth double dipping on 4K UHD upscaled movies, slight improvement in PQ only on my 65" 4K screen unlike native 4K videos which are far superior!  SQ no difference at all if played on a like for like sound format! :)

Just rewatched The Martian on a 4K UHD upscaled copy!
