Another neat feature of nVidia Shield TV 4K is the ability to read MaxCLL and MaxFALL on 4K HDR rip in MKV format and this is very very crucial for 4K display. No other media player like Zidoo or Egreat does that.

Des, does SATV support master display meta data on 4K files with all the playback apps? For example does it do it with Kodi / SPMC?

Yes it does...at least for Kodi. Did not try SPMC though as Kodi ver 18.1 onwards already way better than the Kodi fork, SPMC.

Hi Frds

Lately I have issues on playing 4k contents via Nvidia using SMPC stream from Synology NAS.

The buffering keeps popping up even on 720p files. I have never encountered this before at all with all the 4k files which are big.

Much appreciate some guidance on what settings i should be checking on SMPC and on Synology.

Edit - I have another Synology NAS and that has no issues streaming 4k files to Nvidia. So I can eliminate that it is Nvidia or SMPC issue.

Thanks

on resource monitor on my NAS 1513, Bond 1 (under link aggregation) or single LAN, the speed is less than 1000 KB/s. I think something is wrong here.

Desray

I have since unbond LAN1 and LAN2 and its separate now.

But I still cant stream 4k files at all. Once the movie starts on screen, it immediately buffers.

No issues playing off another Synology NAS which is odd and I did not change any configurations recently.

The Synology giving issues is 1513+ and DS212 (super old model) is fine.

Thanks

What about playing the movies from the Synology using a PC? Does it have similar buffering problems?

How about trying with LAN port 3 & 4?

Googled and found some saying SPMC has the exact problems you are facing, but not Kodi. See here.

Thanks I will reinstall SMPC tonight and as well as install Kodi

I never had this buffering issues before and its only recent. Even a simple 720p file or music file cannot be played smoothly. And it can be played on other media players. So I think my network infrastructure is good.

I am able to stream Netflix 4k over internet using my LAN infrastructure using the same gigabit switcher that the Nvidia is connected too.

If resintalling SMPC and Kodi does not help then I reset Nvidia back to factory and restart everything.

Thx

You should really give Kodi a shot...It is much better compared to SPMC these days.

I do agree Kodi is better but in this case I think you should check the load on the router first. Make sure it’s not operating at near 100% for router cpu. Check the load for the NAS too.

Guys

All is good now!

The culprit is the LAN port on the switcher that I attached the Nividia to is faulty. Hence other devices can stream but only Nvidia. Now I am getting 10-15 Mb/s transmission from NAS vs 200-500 kb/s. ;D

Thanks for giving suggestions.
