U can use NFS protocol for better handling of bandwidth when streaming higher bitrate. SMB v2 and v3 is fine too these days.

Not just only the Pro model will support DV and Atmos for Netflix. Even the normal Nvidia Shield TV 2019 will support that as well.

And yes, all using BD lite menu.

If u use mostly for Netflix streaming and also all your content resides at NAS and no external HDD connected to it, then the cheaper Nvidia Shield TV 2019 (cylindrical shape) will suffice.

You can buy from Nvidia USA. And make use of a shipping service like ezbuy.
Shield TV: US$149.99 (S$207)
Shield TV Pro: US$199.99 (S$275)

ezbuy shipping from USA maybe S$10-$15.

I got my Shield TV 2019 that way. Took about 2 or 3 weeks to arrive.

Or get from Amazon.com (USA)

the shield pro arrived today and set it up to test; installed kodi 18.8 from playstore
again, the Moshou 8K hdmi cable (2m) was not compatible (just like with the zappiti and the zidoo z9x).
Switched to normal 4K hdm cable was Atmos was detected for Netflix and movies from my nas

Guys, the point of running fibre optic HDMI cable is when u need to connect to a display which is far away (more than 8m where some of the copper based HDMI cable will begin to display sparklies or intermittent loss of signal) from your AV gears. If you want to run anything shorter like 5m or less, then just get a normal HDMI cable with a High Speed Premium certified label will do. There is no value proposition in getting a short fibre optics HDMI cable. It’s expensive and will not improve your PQ all of a sudden.

All my fibre optics HDMI cable is at least 10m.

Just wanna share a forum thread on how to watch remuxed Dolby Vision (DV) mkv movies using Exoplayer via Kodi. This is a workaround solution at the moment as Kodi and Plex are unable to play DV mkvs natively yet. Plex in Nvidia Shield Tv can play DV in .ts and .mp4 formats though. The latest MakeMKV software (1.15.2) is able to rip the movie with DV and Atmos embedded. Read from page 62 onwards...

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=21937&start=915

In a nutshell, the steps are:

1. Installed Kodi from the playstore.
2. Installed Exoplayer from the thread - the file with name: Exoplayer_Chapters_Support_03_08_2020_no_debug.apk
3. Create a text file and copy and paste the below playercorefactory codes. Rename this file to playercorefactory.xml and add to Kodi under userdata (Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/ ).

<playercorefactory>
<players>
    <player name="ExoPlayer" type="ExternalPlayer" audio="false" video="true">
         <filename>com.google.android.exoplayer2.demo</filename>
         <hidexbmc>true</hidexbmc>
         <playcountminimumtime>120</playcountminimumtime>
    </player>
</players>
</playercorefactory>

You can use this method to access Shield in your Mac/PC:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/220347688-accessing-shield-storage/

4. Do not click on the Exoplayer app. It has to be played via Kodi. In Kodi, go to the mkv file, long press and hold and you will see a menu option being popped up, go to "Play Using..." and select "Exoplayer". Sometimes you may get "Playback failed", this is a known fault, just exit and try again and it should play well.

It works very well on my Nvidia Shield Tv Pro. I do not own other DV-capable players so this is the best way that I can watch DV movies for now. Not so sure if this method will work with other players though. Cheers!
