wow. that is pretty lot of information for an initial review.
How does the sound of the center speaker/dialog compare to the RB1585?

Didn't compare
You need the 1585 for the ceiling speakers.
But in general it's very powerful. Can drive my Dynaudio speakers
Very musical but needs a better CPU.

Wow did u buy one or rented one for home trial?

Looking forward to your review
I am in communication with Rotel USA, and locally TEG.

Talk to Kenny from TEG, he is a nice chap, and if you are keen, I am sure he will oblige with a try before you buy. I have bought a lot of stuff from them, so I guess they don't mind lending one to me to audition.

I am surprised at the power section, but the interface and lack of auto-EQ will be a bit of a deterrent for this. I have told Kenny and Rotel USA this too.

Wow thanks for the solid review.

Looks like the room auto eq is going to turn away some buyers, considering that the Japanese counterparts are all so advanced in it already.

Rotel has introduced a multichannel integrated amplifier with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround processing for enthusiasts who want separates performance but don’t have space for multiple components.
Slated to arrive in retail stores this month, the RAP-1580 ($3,800) combines a 7 x 100-watt Class A/B amplifier section—rated with all channels driven into 8 ohms—with a 7.1.4 surround processor in a standard-width chassis 8 inches tall and 18.5 inches deep with a 7-inch TFT display.

The RAP-1580 supports 4K video and is HDMI 2.0a-compliant in addition to using high-performance Wolfson 192-kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converters for all channels supported by “premium-grade audio parts in circuits tuned by Rotel’s acoustic engineering team in the U.K.”

Connections include eight HDMI inputs—one on the front panel—and two HDMI outputs with three of the inputs and both outputs enabled with HDCP 2.2, a front-panel iPod USB input with 2.1A charging, a PC-USB input supporting 192-kHz/24-bit audio, an MM phono input, CD input, XLR balanced input, tuner input, three auxiliary analog inputs, and a multichannel input.

The processor/amp also supports Bluetooth/aptX streaming and offers a “full suite of custom integration features.”

“This is our finest home theater product yet,” said Doug Henderson, U.S. President of The B&W Group. “While it resembles a receiver, it really is in a class by itself.”

I'm surprised to learn that Rotel didn't even include an Auto-EQ feature...even though you wanna go back to the basics...this is definitely NOT the way to go. Rotel really think consumers need to invest time and effort to do the manual "use-the-SPL-meter" way to get things working?! I can appreciate "flexibility" and not to be tied down to Auto-EQ w/o granular control but its a really weird and bold move imo...Even more ironic is this is actually a flagship product! At least add an Anthem based ARC EQ to pique the interest.

Yeah

The closest analogy I can get is the Parasound Stereo amp, with HT bypass and some nice DACs. Think of this, with a very powerful power amp section.
So if you add the costs of that stereo amp and a typical Rotel 5 channel amp together, it's pretty close.
But people will tend to compare it with the Marantz and Denon examples. These have a very powerful processor section.. but a weak power section.
I think most buyers will value push button convenience.. even if it means giving up some power and drive.
At half the price I think the most mainstream brands will be more in line with the budgets of buyers in XP.
At least, if you want more power, you can add a power amp.
The other alternative is to use a Oppo 105 with a Rotel power amp..

Its a pity...I really like the avant garde design...way better than the D&M and Onkyo designs.
