Hmmm... If spending approximately $1.6k for a UHD player just to play 4k disc...

...lots of PANNY interest bros here may not be able to stomach the playing capability limitation.

But when we compare the built to the already available Pioneer LX500...

...burb... ;)
The difference of the JDM version

...worth the extra bucks? It's up to u...

I tried out the UB420. The PQ is excellent and HDR tone mapping is super good for the price. Definitely a player to beat at its price point for disc playing. But via USB input (HDD), the file type support is limited and doesn't support ATMOS Audio.

I kinda need a player that has more file types support via USB HDD....

Are there any UHD players to recommend that have support for more file formats like the Oppo 20x? The Oppo 20x can play almost every file I throw at it.  =)

👍🏻 Still the best for me, been serving me well for the past 1 year plus, it plays almost anything I throw aT it, no glitches, no lag, even plays the dsd files, too bad it’s no longer in production and prices have sky rocketed for a new set now

Oppo is good for now. Very all rounded. But hor, we still we need to start searching for worthy replacement players and plan ahead in event of emerging video/audio format supports.

The panny is still great for 4k disc playing and the HDR dynamic tone mapping quality is superb.

How are the latest Pioneer players? Can they support multiple file formats via USB?

On the picture quality, I wouldn’t say it’s great, just normal, I still find the Oppo 205 was way better, the UB420” had a lot of noise, u could see it clearly, even with the disc on...

But for the price of the player and used with disc then it’s good. So if we had a ton of UHD disc collection then worth getting this player for the price

Pioneer has been tested as well... still some catching up, should be soon...

We mustn’t forget Oppo has been around for more than a decade in this line, the know how on firmware, design, etc is critical, which is why it plays almost anything u throw at it

U will notice why emotiva is still struggling until now to get the RMC-1 processor to work well, the firmware part is not easy...

LG ub970 on clearance price of $199 @ Courts

I'm thinking of getting this. Does anyone know if this is able to play region locked DVDs? I still have many zone 1 DVDs that I would like to play occasionally.

I wonder if the game consoles will be the first 4k players with HDMI 2.1?
Then again, they are now coming without a drive...
Please post instead of sending a pm, so more can learn.

LG wise... from different clips posted in YouTube it seems that playing different region discs requires hack per session play by adjusting on the country region in setup... but again i cannot confirm.
The only UHD player i know that needs not do any "hack per play" are from Samsung. Both the M8500 and 9500.
