Lumin released Firmware 7.09.

It adds support for Linn Kazoo app, including Tidal / Qobuz features.

Android users may try this.

To get 24-bit Tidal Masters MQA music streamed to Lumin (but without MQA decoding):

1. Use Tidal desktop app on a computer to add a Tidal Masters music to favorite
2. Play it using Lumin from Tidal favorite
3. Observe that the bitdepth is 24bit instead of 16bit - this indicates you're receiving MQA music from Tidal. Since Lumin is not decoding MQA (yet), you will see 44.1kHz or 48kHz only, not a higher bitrate.

In this setup you can verify whether MQA's claim of MQA music sounds better even without any MQA decoding is true or not.

Note: This procedure does not generally apply to other manufacturers. They may still receive 16-bit non-MQA music even if playing favorite Tidal Masters music.

In case you have missed my reply to your other thread, here it is again:

Three reviews, two in Chinese, one in Japanese:

http://my-hiend.com/wp/lumin-u1%E7%B5%A6%E6%82%A8%E6%9C%80%E7%B4%94%E7%B2%B9%E7%9A%84%E6%95%B8%E4%BD%8D%E4%B8%B2%E6%B5%81%E9%9F%B3%E6%A8%82/3/
http://www.phileweb.com/review/article/201606/16/2104.html

Here's my summary and translation of the post76 review of Lumin U1:

Lumin U1 AES output (Oyaide AR-910 5N silver with Furutech carbon fiber balance plug and shielding) to Antelope Zodiac Gold:

- Compared to Lumin U1 RCA output (Audio Synthesis SilverBlue SQ) voice is clearer, background is more silent, weak notes are clearer.

- The reviewer tried a Hong Kong song 24/96 "眼晴不能沒眼淚" by Leo Ku, found that the AES output has an analog feeling, with high resolution and a touch of vinyl sound. It is the best rendition of this song compared to 10 other streamers he tried before (listed in the review).

Lumin U1 USB output (Entreq Challenger USB + Entreq Eartha Silver)

- "Oh My God~!!!!!" Possibly aided by the Entreq Challenger USB connection to a ground box (PAC reference ground box from Hong Kong), the USB output is another level above the AES output, with even deeper silent background, and even clearer weak notes.

- It allows the reviewer to hear some weak notes from the song "春江花月夜/新版十面埋伏" he never heard before. There is no decrease of smoothness compared to AES, not matching some people's general belief of USB being more digital sounding than AES.

- Entreq Challenger USB + Entreq Eartha Silver performs really well here, with even better balance of treble/mid/bass. Voices convey an emotional affection, the high density of the music gives an even better overall atmosphere, with the decays sounding natural with no hint of noises.

- In the reviewer's setup with the same USB cable, Lumin U1 completely beats Aurender N100H (although the latter offers a marginally more relaxed sound)

P.S. Entreq's website explanation of the ground box connection:
"This entails the shielding / drain wire not being connected to the device’s negative pole, but is connected to another external earth point. One of our ground boxes is suggested.
This way, we drain off the interference/noise that the shielding absorbs to the ground outside of the signal paths, instead of the usual mixing it together with the signal wire at the connection to the devices."

Roon Ready Firmware 8.01 is released.

Roon users please update Roon to Build 209 or later.  The Roon app Build 209 should show up in a few days.

Roon 30-day trial:
https://www.nativedsd.com/information/roon

Roon can be integrated with Tidal, Tidal 60-day trial:
http://tidal.com/masters

Note: Use a computer web browser to sign up for Tidal, do not use Tidal mobile app (otherwise it'll be more expensive).

Paging for Audio...

I got a friend who picked up a UM1 from last year's HK show where all the Lumin units including the flagship were going at a bargain.

My friend want a one-box solution that includes the pre and power amp....that is, ethernet RG45 in, loudspeaker wires out.  The U1 fits in perfectly.....I think there is synergy with digital audio and Class-D amplification.  He told me that he is very happy with the UM1.

Personally, I think it's a steal...    :)

The Lumin with built-in digital Class-D amplification is M1.  I'm glad your friend likes it.

The U1 is a transport model that has Ethernet input, and digital audio output (USB audio / AES / BNC / RCA / optical).  No analog or speaker output of any kind.

Opps....My friend bought a M1 instead of a U1.  Sorry...   :)
