I am using a 3M media converter in multi mode configuration to decouple the noise from my Synology NAS to my streamer. It still lose to my streamer hooked direct to my SSD by a big margin. My take is if you can make your digital solution as direct as possible with less computers (NAS itself is a computer) you will get better sound.

Points taken.

There is no NAS in my system.  All music content are stored in an SSD RAID 5 array, I got 5 SSDs connected to a Adaptec RAID card so I don't waste CPU cycle handling the RAID.

As soon as the Allied Telesis card arrived, it will be plug into one of the PCI-e slot and  the fibre output connect to the media convertor directly.   I am not sure would the Lumin lose the IP address or not in this "direct mode" configuration.....fingers crossed.

...  Fibre, I use the compatible 10G type (light blue), they are compatible to the Single Mode transceivers...

:P… Actually, your “Blue” fibre optic cables look like a Aqua multimode cables; it’ll work, but sub-optimally! (Real Blue cables are deep blue and meant for specialist polarized laser use) - and neither are specialised for 10G per se. Google “fiber optic cable color codes” (use American spelling) or refer to the TIA-598C colour coding standard.

As for which cables you should being using for SM SFPs, I’d highly recommend sticking to standard Yellow Single-Mode fibres (ITU G.652/TIA-492C000 compliant) - they’re always used in the industry for 10G, and these days 40G and 100G as well.

Here’s a high-level overview from the fibre optic cable manufacturing leader (Corning);

If there’s no DHCP server in-between that PC to Lumin connection, just configure both with static IP addresses - keep it simple. A more complex alternative would be to enable DHCP server on Windows ;)

Hi Bros, i just noticed that my Lumin seems to registering music files as MP3. Is there any setting I might have accidentally triggered ? I run a mac mini with J river with an external hard disk.

Ps: I seem to be getting these issues after my "upgrade" from Mc19 to mC21. I had an earlier issue where J river did not recognise my Lumin. I accidentally found a sub menu in Jriver to enable UpNP setup and it worked. I must say the J river software whilst good is not the most intuitive and I feel it's certainly not for the computer savvy.

Try JRiver Options -> Media Network -> DLNA Servers.  You should have created a "24-bit Audiophile DAC" there.  For it, try setting Audio Mode to Normal (instead of Specified Output Format), and enabling Advanced -> Bitstream DSD (DoPE), and disabling DSP Studio.

I'll see if I can test with MC21 later today, and post another update if the above is no longer correct.

This screenshot is from the old JRiver build.  You just need to change the settings under "Audio" section appearing near the centre of the screenshot.  JRiver default will be to convert your output to MP3 Audio format.  You need to change it to "Original".

New to this forum. Just wondering if anyone can help. I tried connecting my Tplink media converter (Fiber to Copper) to my Lumin S1 just the same way I successfully connect to my Aries but the Lumin show network error. I am also using a fibre switch. Thanks.

"Network Error" means it cannot obtain an IP address from your DHCP server (usually enabled in a home router), or it cannot detect the network cable.

Test your fibre...connect a laptop to the ethernet port off your media convertor.  Very likely cause may be incompatible transceiver or incompatible fibre.

It never have problem connecting to my Aries streamer before and now I tested it connected readily to my window notebook straight away. Only 2 yellow lights on the right side and none on the left. Any way I can force a connection?

Did you tried direct via Ethernet cable without your OMC?
