Any indicative price of 103 Darbee? My Oppo 83 is going ROD soon.

For me its either, I am considering Philips 9700 + Darblet or 103 Darbee. Now very itchy on Philips after I molested it yesterday. ;D. I got a feeling if I get Philips I will not think of darblet as the reviews are rather mixed.

AB Chan - Do you have a unit on demo? Keen to see the impact on big screen.

Thx

Hi DizzyD,
If you are referring to the Darbee Darblet, we are sorry we no longer have it on demo.
We brought in a few trial units initially but sales were not encouraging.

Like what you said. We found responses were a mixed bag. Some like the processed sharper image, others still prefer the original more filmlike look of the movies as the directors had intended.

Think SLT will be bringing in the Darblet for sales in Singapore. You might wanna check with him. he posted in the Darblet thread in the display forum. Else, I am using Darblet also on my projector with 80" screen, can come see see if the 80" is big enough for demo :)

The info / spec blurb and manual are up:

http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-103/blu-ray-BDP-103-Support.aspx?prodID=BDP103D

Plus 103 vs 103D:

Quote
Is the BDP-103D Right for Me?

The main difference between the BDP-103 and BDP-103D is the BDP-103D's incorporation of the Darbee Visual Presence processor.  The BDP-103 is a reference quality Blu-ray Disc player and has won numerous awards.  The BDP-103D is based on the BDP-103 and shares most of the same features. Basically, the Darbee processor is a video enhancer that provides greater clarity and increases the perception of depth by embedding stereoscopic depth cues within the video, resulting in a more dynamic, lifelike experience.
The Darbee's processing level is adjustable, which allows you to customize it to your particular taste. Unlike many other image enhancers or sharpeners, the Darbee processor does not alter the image in a global fashion, so it is able to reduce the amount of image artifacts that are created, and it does not adversely affect calibrated settings such as contrast, gamma, and color.
The original BDP-103 is known for its accuracy in reproducing video from all kinds of discs.  The BDP-103D takes one step beyond reference quality accuracy.  When the Darbee Visual Presence enhancement is turned off, it is a reference quality player just like the BDP-103.  When the Darbee Visual Presence enhancement is turned on, the user has the option to fine tune the video to his/her own liking.  In summary, if you are looking for a quality player that accurately reproduces video, the BDP-103 is the right choice; if you are looking for a more customized experience beyond standard picture adjustments, the BDP-103D provides additional possibilities to fine tune your viewing experience.

Nice summary. $100 for the added enhancer is good. If only we can pay the same to do the add on for our existing 103 :(

I found out that I can connect a media player like Popcorn to 103D and utilised the darbee processing. So not to bad afterall as we probably have 1 or 2 more video sources. The downside is that 103D will not output DTS MA or True HD audio and only LPCM  but I think its good enough.

If the above works well then I think its more cost effective versus buying a standalone Darblet.

The above assumes there are visual benefits of having Darbee vs Marvell in 103.

What are the specs of the digital inputs?

HDMI
The inputs support stereo and 5.1 LPCM up to 192KHz, 7.1 LPCM up to 96KHz.
Lossy Dolby Digital and DTS up to 7.1.
Dolby Digital Plus up to 7.1.
They do not support input of DSD, Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA.
If fed Stereo LPCM originating from an HDCD disc, then the HDCD decoder in the OPPO can be used.
Note that as with all HDMI, audio can only be carried embedded in a video signal (which can be a black image). To use high bit rate LPCM, that signal must be 720p or higher.

Exactly. These are what Oppo accepts on the HDMI inputs.

Oppo can still output DTS HD
