These 2 must recommend. It's so good that it be a sin if I keep it to myself.  :)

Actually, I have bro Eyepower to thank for. It was during supper after the Sigur Ros gig he mentioned his Stories To Tell CD is lost in the mail and my radar went up. Then I might as well whack both of Richard Marx's recent concerts. I wasn't thrilled with the DVDs and just wanted the CDs. The CDs are fantastic. They are all of his sappy love songs done acoustically. I was surprised Stories To Tell came with 2 CDs, the other being his hits in the original arrangements. Mine are US press and they sound amazing.

Then yesterday I finally pop the DVD from Stories To Tell in. Fricking wow!!!  I love concerts like these... Just Marx with his Taylor/Fender. He is at times joined by a pianist and a string quartet. Between songs he will muse about stories about how it was written and it's usually peppered with his good-natured self-depreciating humor.

A Night Out With Friends is a more recent gig. The same format but a bigger venue with some cool guests like Sara Niemietz (what a voice!), Matt Scannell (from Vertical Horizon) and Hugh Jackman who is probably doing his warm-up for Les Miz here. At the halfway mark it goes into rock concert mode

I love both concerts. The fact they are only DVDs and only Dolby 5.1 didn't diminish it one bit.

If u are getting, please buy US.

This too is a keeper. the 5.1 remastered sound is one of the best, and the videos match the smoothness of her voice and elegant jazzy style.

Oh ya, that is the bugbear on the CD. And folks who attended the concert said the band were too overpowering. Audio's opinion on the HD audio will be appreciated. Yesasia also selling the BD and has free shipping.

It’s official.

I am not a Kit Chan fan and I never will be.

It’s unfortunate as she is not a bad singer, in fact, I always have admired her style of singing, very expressive and she works very hard.....and yes, she's a Singaporean!!   It is just her selection of songs that she chooses to sing (her producer’s fault?) that I cannot connect with.   No hook, no melody, just songs that sounded similar, sad and melancholy.

I went through the Blu Ray, opening piece  by orchestra....not impressive……she started singing at track 2......nice yellow dress and smile.....nice singing but the song I cannot aapreciate.....then I skip and skip….I yawned….maybe I found some melody in track 8, but it was weak…..not engaging at all.

Picture quality of this disc is not great.  They tried but nowhere near Tsai Chin standards.  I felt the problem was with the stagelighting, very chromatic but I felt that there are no enough lights to give the HD cameras the whiteness it needs.  It looks very similar to the Bianca live concert.

Again, the sound quality is not great, no wow factor.   The orchestra may look grand but to me, the quality of musicianship is poor, at least to my uneducated ears.  Either everyone in the strings are not synchronized or they had very little rehearsals or the mic placement / the mixing is poor, I don’t hear them as one orchestra.   This is NO WAY near  Tsai Chin’s Hong Kong Live Concert 2010 Blu Ray offering..... so transparent, so involving, so moving, it does more with a band ….no orchestra required…sorry.

I brought this blu ray because I saw that brown label at the top claiming this as “Audiophile Live Recording” and yes, Kit Chan is always associated with audiophile recordings….but this is so disappointing.....sigh.

Lee Ritenour- Overtime
Live in a small venue, and sound quality is good and good musicians playing.

Sting Live in Berlin is not too bad as well.
