Great movie night - Real Steel + Inception
« on: October 06, 2012, 23:31 »
Wife hadn't watched Real Steel before so I unwrapped the shrink wrap of the steel box and watched that first.

It's a simple, easy movie to get into and really had a feel good err feel to it.

Then we rewatched Inception.

Like Real Steel, I had watched it before in the cinemas but never quite gotten around to watching the BluRay.

It's a great movie to get into as a second show and it still got us thinking and discussing the movie.

And of course the JL f113 kicked serious ass in the movies :P

Very nice  ;)

My movies tonight were The Spy Who Loved Me and Dangerous Liaisons. But it's not over yet... Now finishing the last six episodes of Ghetto Justice 2 (HK TVB serial)

TSWLM is my wife's first time watching a pre-Daniel Craig James Bond flick. Start her off with my personal fave. Still a guilty joy to watch and she enjoyed the cheesy quips. "All those feathers and he still can't fly!", "Then how about a nightcap on the company? My company."

Dangerous Liaisons was becoz we saw the poster for the Chinese remake (with Zhang Ziyi) recently and she was curious. I told her that the Stephen Frears classic is a must-watch. In went the Blu-ray. The story, plot and performances are a joy to behold. Michelle Pfeiffer's exquisite portrayal of a tragic soul, Glenn Close is in her own words, a virtuoso of deceit and John Malkovich's portrayal of a player of souls culminating to his final realization that he is being played all along... Amazing. My missus got a hoot seeing such a young Uma Thurman and Keanu Reeves. After so many times of seeing this, I still find the casting of Reeves the only weak spot in the entire film. I got to say the Blu-ray is quite impressive for a catalogue title.

Inception is like a who's who of Batman Rises. I only made the connection watching it tonight.

Bane, Talia, Alfred, Scarecrow, Robin. DAMN they were all in there.

I don't think I even recall Tom Hardy being in Inception. First movie I sorta remembered him in was Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

But looking at Wiki, I should have seen him in Layer Cake and no, I didn't remember him from Nemesis either.

Another weekend and this week, it's the Bourne trilogy. Well, it's a quadrilogy now but Pt4 still isnt out.

It's still very fresh rewatching this movie and I still love how well written it is. It's not Nolan but it's plenty smart and I picked up small things I missed out the first time like how he took his time to study the map before he ran the Mini to inches of its life :) The other cool stuff like using the evacuation signs, the radio were just inspired.

Bourne Supremacy tomorrow and maybe Ultimatum.

Wife suggesting Die Hard next :)

Got the soundtracks of the movies recently.

Damn it's good.

It's in the movie but wasn't in the first movie's soundtrack. Lucky they rectified it for the second movie's soundtrack.

And then again in Pt 3 and Pt 4! :)

Watched the second two of the Damon trilogies.

Epic

Will try to get the BR of the 4th one to finish up the series. I heard it isn't as good but for completeness...

Is this a thread for sharing what we watched during movie nites?  I hope it is... If I am intruding, let me know eh

Yest, we finished Eyes Wide Shut. I think the jury is still out for Kubrick's final film. Every scene feels dragged on for an eternity but it's such an evocative and intoxicating film. I would sure love to get that weird chanting tune on CD if it's available.

Then it was Kieslowski's Red. On hind thought I should have watched Blue and White first. Each time I see this I find something new to appreciate. These are the type of films that can make you want to be closer to the people in your life, even the same stranger u see at a bus stop every morning.

Then it was Burton's Big Fish, an under-rated Tim Burton film. Big Fish holds a very special spot in my heart - when my dad passed on, I couldn't cry for a few weeks. I thought there was something wrong with me. Then I wandered into the cinema and Big Fish helped me let out and let go.

Finally, Pasolini's Salo. There's no good time to watch this infamous film. Last nite was my second time watching it and it's one time too many. I gotta say Criterion did an amazing job with the film and I am looking forward to checking out the special features to find out WTF it is. I just can't fathom what the director was thinking in making Salo. It was also quite funny to see my wife's eyes popping out and shaking her head at all the sh1t splashing on the screen, both metaphorically and literally.

I listened to the OST few years back when I purchased the 3 Disc LE Pianist DVD with OST.
I love the music on the end credits, but it was not featured in the OST itself.
I like the score for the Pianist, but the OST that comes with the LE DVD is like totally different with the movie so damn disappointed
