Dan Hill Concert
« on: July 09, 2012, 18:47 »
I was thrilled when I found out that Dan Hill is hitting town. ONE night only at Marina Bay Sands Theatre. Got my tickets early and was totally looking forward to see him perform LIVE. BTW I still have 3 of his LPs that I played regularly. The show started at 8pm to a 60% filled Sand theatre and guess what..A Philippines band was on stage with this guy (don't even know who) came on the stage and belted a couple of jazz-like songs..completely horrible.

By the time Dan came on stage. It was closer to 8.30pm. He opened with a couple of songs and I thought he looked damn old. The voice can no longer hit the high keys and was abit out of breath. He took a few more songs to warm up. Obviously he needed help from the 2 backup singers to help him fill-out.

Well..guess what..he finished at about 9.30pm. Think he only did like 10 songs at most.
This is really a rip off since he hardly sang all the great songs on his LPs.. he did most of the songs he wrote for other artistes. 1hr for 140 bucks is really not worth it at all. Especially he came without his own band (Pinoy band instead) and 2 backup singers.

Not sure any bros went that night.  >:(

Dan Hill is over the hill already, that is why I do not want to pay exorbitant prices to watch those artistes from the 60's & the 70's. The only song I know from him was "sometimes when we touch"..way back in 1977. Anyway, after this you will be much wiser.

Well..reason why I go is because I knew most of his songs. If I only know ONE song, I will not even bother. My disappointment is targeted at the folks who bring them in. They must have seen his performance and be convinced that he can perform up to mark to get people part their $$. The quality check has to be done. So even if you can bring in Celine Dion and get people to pay 200 bucks...make sure the show is of quality and not short change the crowd.

These days have to also check the promoter who brings these acts in. Lushington usually got some standard but I'm dem wary of LAMC tend to get the most basic setup and staging yet charge you high prices for mostly over the hill acts. I suppose MBS now falls into that category
