Pioneer AVR owners' Thread
« on: December 14, 2011, 22:47 »
Just curious to find out.  How many Bros are Pioneer AVR users here.  These value for money AVRs, if bought from Hong Kong, are excellent in HT and very good in Stereo options.  It's a shame that the local retailers are pricing them too high, making them uncompetitive in the faces of Denon, Onkyo and Yammies offerings... :o

Wonldn't it be more appropriate put in the main speakers to let the rest know what this AVR can drive. Putting in the player does not make much sense as this baby can take all players. Lastly, I love Airplay.

These AVRs can drive practically most speakers in view of their high current power.  The reason for coupling it with a BDP is that the SQ will improve when partnering one with PQLS link (Pioneer BDPs with this option).

You will notice with PQLS on, the sound is much more refine.

Again, I can't emphasize the point the newer generation AVRs are really exciting, vibrant, controlled and dynamic sounding especially on multi-channels play back.

Enjoy.... :)

I pitted the Oppo 95 against the Pioneer BDF23Fd (with PQLS on) this afternoon, and I not surprised that the former is a notch better in dynamics, impact and soundstage.  Selected scenes from Transformers' Dark of the Moon; The Day After Tomorrow; Bianca Wu and Hereafter were used to determine the SQ.  However, the 95 is three and a half times more expensive than the 23 :P

Hi  ;D

I'm currently using LX85 connected to Oppo analog audio out (5.1) + HDMI for pictures & set the LX85 to MultiChannel In  :)

I have played around with using HDMI for both audio/video and use LX85 MCACC to auto calibrate.

Each time I find the Oppo analog setup to be significantly better ...

Having said that, I spent most time in stereo world hahaha ... so maybe I'm missing something ...

Any pointers ?

Personally, I find that there is very little difference in HT SQ thru' the HDMI vs 5.1 analog!

Are you using the Oppo decoder or MCACC?

When I connect the oppo analog cables, the oppo DAC will take control.

There is no option of having Oppo analog out and using pioneer's MCACC at the same time.

So the SQ I experience is that Oppo DAC with analog out to LX85 preouts sounds much better than hdmi digital audio into lx85 and using the pioneer's dac & MCACC.

Is there a better option ?

Hehehe still noobie at this AVR stuff lolZ.

I mean when using HDMI, do you output PCM or bitstream?  Did you try Stream direct and pure direct mode!
