New version momitsu
« on: June 25, 2004, 15:04 »
In case anyone thinking of buying this, you probably can delay for a few more days for the new version.

Wondering whether there is any upgrade package for existing owners.

Mainly the component output which it mentioned, is improved. As we know, the component output now is less than desired. There're 2 separate DACs incorporated.

Also, there's a new remote which is much better...gone are the days of repeated pressing just to navigate 1 step.

I wonder if this new momitsu can be used as a standalone scaler.

The 880N has this standalone scaler feature.

Sounds good...I wonder can the existing Momitsu users like us exchange for the NEW REMOTE CONTROLLER?....I'm so fed up with the current one! Yuck!~

Yah. Now everytime I turn everything off, I check if any of the keys on the remote are stuck, otherwise the battery will be completely drained next time I try to use it. The new firmware has made the remote more responsive though.

Dunno whether they have the new v880 have a similar standalone scaler. The comparison table just listed both v880 and v880n to have sigma chip as mpeg scaler and sil image as dvi bridge.

And it seemed this dual dac v880 is exclusive to the web retailer only. Think I will ask Fastlogic whether they will also bring in. I would like to use the component video out from the momitsu if it's improved.

With this option, 880N will be able to convert analog signals from LDPs, PS2s, SCV STB into digital DVI.

EDIT: Also realised that if we wanted good analog output, the updated V880's 10bit DAC may be the better option. (10bit DAC is for the DVI-I or for component output?)  For DVI users, the 880N may be the better choice given the standalone scaling feature.

hm...the new Momitsu can use a dvi-vga "blocker" to output VGA signal through the dvi port.  Does this mean we will be getting silicon image progressive scann vga signals (since the component out is not through the silicon chipset)?

If yes, then yummy for me.  Found my next DVDP liao!   ;D

BTW, can the current momitsu do this also?

Doesn't the momitsu uses the all-in-one Sigma Desgin chip, that does everything like MPEG/Divx/Doby digital decoding, progressive scan, upscaling. ???

With it's low cost, I don't think they would include a silicon image de-intelacer since it's already done by the all-in-one chip solution.

yes, but for the dvi output, it uses the silicon image.  that's why the momitsu is so sort after (value for money).

It works on the current model. Tested with the VGA input on my Philips Pixel Plus TV

I can atest that the momitsu DOES NOT use the SIL504.

The output stage uses a silicon image chip, but this SIL chip is not used for deinterlacing.

so the deinterlacing still done by the sigma chipset through dvi-vga?
