Relax brother pixel8, I'm here...

With regards to your question on the black bar...Yes! it squashed the picture vertically abit. The colours are rich and good for the DVI Connection (especially so for bright sunny day scenes)...but when it comes to night scenes...its a totally different fairy tale... :(

I used to post some pics on the Samsung HD938 Player...but I think I have removed it over time from my friend's server...

If you're using an AE300 - the problem will be there! And most probably will exist for all if not most of the native resolution Projector of 964 by 544 or 960 by 540 region.

The normal Component Out is fine...and the Samsung can do 720p for AE300 Projector ONLY! Coz AE300 only able to accept native 720p signal...

...Cont'd...but ask yourself if you wanna take advantage of Samsung's DCDi De-Scaler (which sadly but truly ONLY MEANT FOR DVI CONNECTION)...and yet you cannot connect to the Projector (assuming AE300 PJ here)...then why get it? Look towards Momitsu instead in which I guarantee to wrok with AE300 resolution of 960 by 540. TESTED AND AFFIRMED IT TO WORK!!!

Hi desray, you mentioned previously for a firmware upgrade for the samsung. Do you know the steps to check for the firmware version on the player? Maybe I can check at the vendor, to see if it's same as yours or lower/higher.

When you mentioned for night scenes, how do you mean? Is it bad .... how bad?

So you are saying the picture is squashed vertically, but wouldn't that be like a letterbox effect ie. black bars on top and bottom instead of only bottom, as you mentioned?

Reason I'm looking at Samsung is that you have compared both and you think Samsung is better, right?

I went back to the counter at Harvey Norman and asked this stupid question after my purchase..."Sure har? No problem with region protection?"...the reply was..."All Harvey Norman DVD players are region free....don't worry..."

Rather shocked to hear that this is not the same with other purchase of the same player from other stores....

As long as your projector says 720p or 1080i, then there should be no problem.

In my case, there is a black border all around because my resolution is 13XX X 8XX...so, in 720p, a resolution of 1280 X 720 will create those borders...but it's worth it..you get 1:1 mapping...sharper image.

Also want to report that I bought a 10 metre DVI cable last weekend...there is no diff to the quality of the picture!!

Move my Samsung to the front (it was at the rear, closer to the projector due to the length of the video cable), so now, I can control the player by aiming my remote control to the front....not the rear.

This thread has been up-ped for tomasulu's recent query on Samsung HD938...

Read thru it...and hoped that you can find something useful along the way... ;)
