Title: Tube preamp with dual vol control
Post by: twlmad on May 10, 2011, 21:25
Hi all,

Does any bro here have recommendations for a tube preamp with dual volume control, one for each channel, and more than one pre-outs?

Budget less than 1k new, 500 plus minus used.

Grateful for advice, thanks!

you might have to DIY but maybe not even that price point will get you there

$500 for used mono pods tube pre? Tubes, mono pods and chassis already cost $500 if you want to diy. A good pair of mono pods can already cost $500.

If you got are going to spend $1k to DIY. Maybe can try the UTS with Lightspeed.

If you are using dual pot, better make sure it's a stepped one instead of carbon brush. You may tear your hair out just to get both left and right channel to be on the same volume. :P

Thanks bros for the advice, will check out martin =)

On naimster's point, I actually want to keep one channel louder than the other, as my hearing on one side is  slightlyweaker and the imaging shifts to one side, which i find vv vv annoying. hence the need for dual pots.

easier controlled with a volume pot + balance pot then two monos. at least setting is set once for balance (dial in imaging), and then volume pot just does what it does.

lighternote setup has a a lot of setup including a balance pot that would probably give you a very good option.
