Title: Denon X2400H or X3400H?
Post by: LWCM on April 11, 2019, 11:31
I am considering between these 2 AVR. Both are 7 channels.

I googled and it seems that there is only 2 differences:
1. 105w vs 95w
2. 3400 has discrete subwoofer out

Some opinion appreciated. Is the additional 10w worth it considering 3400 is 150% of 2400 price?

What is "discrete subwoofer out"?

TIA

I think it means the outputs from the 2400 are the same signal, just duplicated. Any setting in the AVR is applied to both.

The ones from the 3400 are different/discrete signals which can be indepently controlled within the AVR.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. Is there a real difference between normal and discreet sub out? Anyone heard the difference before? See if worth it to pay more.

I have not owned anything with 2 separately adjustable sub-outs, but in a larger home theater setup with two subs, I can imagine needing to adjust them independently with parameters such as distance, crossover settings as I assume these will be affected by placement, and to get best response in-room.

If you use two subs (or intend to eventually), the 2400 is not a good idea.

X3400 is using Multi XT32 which can EQ dual subs separately. You can adjust the level, crossover of each sub individually. X2400 is using Multi XT, although dual subs out, it basically sums up 2 output into 1. You can only adjust the level, crossover as one sub. If budget is not a concern, go for X3400 as it also has pre-out.

Go for 4500H worth the price
