Title: My HT Journey resumes. Diffusors with SMT Wings
Post by: ronildoq on October 18, 2018, 21:24
I’ve been a very satisfied and happy man, enjoying my HT system, having completed my journey

1. calibrating the subs
2. Video calibration
3. Integrating the systems using Dirac

In all my approach, I always look to calibrate the system to reference, then tweak to preference. This has been my method and goal.

Then one day, I stumbled upon these diffusors , SMT Wings ! This stuff is amazing, incredible ! It’s been around for some years

I’m more of a HT guy, 80-20% music. I appreciate HT better, mainly because all the family get together , my kids and Mrs. So in some form, it’s family time. Sound Quality is very important to me, no compromise, especially on vocals. With good sounding crystal clear vocals watching documentary etc, the kids pick up, speaking fluent language as well. That’s a plus indeed .

What I’ve experienced with The SMT S Wings unit, is an enhanced depth, clarity, timbre and details to the set up in my room. This effect is something that electronics can’t produce. It is helped with radiated energy using these diffusors within the room.

So here goes again, my HT journey, to bring out the best in my hall. It’s a very challenging hall, 8x6m in length, but this time round, I’ll be working on the decay times in the upper frequencies using the help from tools to measure energy times using REW software, to identify where to best place these S Wings in my room.

I’ve got in 6x 120x60cm panels, and 2x 60x60cm panels from Europe, (yet to Arrive) with an idea of where to best place them in the room. Whether or not it will be as effective, that’s where I’m going to share my journey here.

My previous demo loan panel was just 2x 120x60cm panel and I could hear so much difference and quality it brought to the set up....

What does these wings do ? It’s a spacial and temporal diffusor.

Imagine this, when you throw a bowling ball onto a wall, it will bounce off the wall. Similar to a sound wave. Now if u have a diffusor on the wall and throw the ball again at the wall, that ball will burst into tiny pieces and scatter, if the diffusors are working as intended. That is the traits of a spatial diffuser.

Now if those exploded pieces emerges in a different time relative to one another, then we have a temporal diffusion situation, where fragments repeats itself over time, until it decays off.

The s wings does this diffusion in space and time and good diffusors work this way.

First I’ll share my individual speakers energy time curve, then I’ll share again what happens after I place these s Wings. For now, still waiting for the S wing to ship.... stay tuned... to be continued ...

Very good stuff! Once in, not coming out....

Haven’t really started, waiting for it to arrive , very slow, but worth the wait. I’ll wait patiently.

While waiting, I’ll share some details about the current room condition, what I have in my room, how I’m going to shift them, to make way for the wings.

My main application and focus will be for HT, rather than 2 channel listening.

I have the Low bass taken care by psi active bass trap, 1 unit only. but still insufficient. Need 2 units to be effective. So I’ll shift some of the panels using dihedral mounting, like this..

This method above is very effective in trapping bass energy, with a air gap at the back of the panel, especially when wavelengths down lower frequencies are much longer.

Since I’ve already identified the room modes, and which areas have bass ringing, I know exactly where to place them. So that’s done. See here

http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=268900.15

1 MOAB goes this way, and 2 absorption panel, total 3 pieces on dihedral mount to trap bass energy. The 2 aural aid corner traps will remain as it is.

I have carpets on a laminated timber floor. So carpets absorbs in the upper frequencies whilst the wood transmits tactile energy, further amplified with crowsons and leather material sofa. Very happy here, nothing to improve anymore.

On first reflection points, very nice thick black out curtains , but only on the right side .... left side empty, it’s the door

So let’s see the left side of the speakers reflection point, and what is the angle of incidence

Long journey ahead... with all the mounting work etc...but having lotsa determination to push it through

Guys, just feel free to shoot anything u want and anything that can improve, most welcome to do so!

There is cardboard version and wood version, we got in the wood version, demo stocks ....

Pricing for new is below, before shipping ...

But this is Super high quality stuff, 2 pieces in a 8x6m room can be felt almost full force... can’t compare to those QRD or clone versions from China, totally different league... it even works placed nearfield, so good.

Acoustic treatment is the “last mile” for any HT and your living hall is really very big certainly will benefit from some form of treatment. But Just make sure don’t over-do it. Based on my short listening experience, you need more absorption than reflection. Remember that’s your living hall we are talking about here.

By the way nice diffuser designs etc. Keep those pics coming.

Focus A is 60x60x2cm. Check with them for the current price. It's not expensive considering the number of panels. You need to buy in a box. 1 box of 28pcs is probably $300+.

Yes desray, totally agree. Need to balance it off with absorption. All the panels I have now are All absorption panels.

What I’ve come to learn is that a combination of both diffusion and absorption yields a very satisfying result, the absorption is focused for lower bass area whilst the diffusion’s for surrounds , back wall and front wall.

I’ve also noticed this is not just any diffusor, it works down to 250hz in the time domain. The results are amazing, a very even diffusion soundfield, and this is far superior to any of the QRD diffusors I’ve tried.

I’ll share again with measurement tools, how I intend to approach this with placement and how this affects what we hear in the end. The key area I’m working on now is how And where we should place them for it to be effective, in that hall. This is the next exercise I need to go through.

Then  probably one final emotiva processor with Dirac , then I’m done for HT.

Wall paper won’t do anything, don’t waste time.

What most people don’t realise is “placement”, the placement is very important. Similar to your speakers, the diffusors and absorbers work in a similar way. You need to know exactly where to place the panels on the ceiling. Not just put it all over the ceiling.

Think of it this way, the speakers produce direct sound. There is also a reflected sound that bounces off the floor, ceiling and side walls. The physics behind is that the angle of incidence will always equal the angle of reflection.

So 1st, u must identify the reflection point. Where is that sound reflecting off, when u place the speakers at the centre of your room below the tv, example. Ideally , it will be at approximately 40-50 degrees on the ceiling and floor that needs treatment.

How to verify this ? Use REW and umik 1. Measure just the centre speaker, then look at the energy time curve. Then look for the peaks

Any peaks above -20db are the ones that needs attention, so place the panels at respective locations , then measure again, until the peaks are brought down.

You can use the mirror or string technique for this

The point here I’m trying to drive, is not how many panels or area that is covered, it’s where the panels are placed that matters....

The wings does it very well, using the reflected / radiated energy from the room. But all will go to waste, if not placed at the right place

What is also important to note is that, placement varies. Depending on type room

For HT room, there are many speakers in the room 11 speakers including Atmos, so it’s a real challenge with placement

For critical listening for 2 channel, it’s different again, how we should place then wings

Then for studio, it’s different again.

Placement horizontal or vertical will determine how the energy radiates as well, upwards downwards / side ways left right...

So many things

Echophon panels for suspended ceiling with 60kg rockwool density, leaving 3cm air GAP in a 60x60 grid mounting system for bass traps

This will be paired with 16x BAD diffuser panels flanking the Atmos speakers for wider dispersion characteristics

Haven’t unboxed the SMT wings... stay tuned...previously was just 2x 120cm and I was like WOW .. this time round will be 8x, 2 back of MLP, 2x for surrounds, 2x behind mains, two small ones flanking centre channel...

The rest of the 6x MOAB panels will go for dihedral mount ceiling corners for bass trap, supported by another 2 aural aid corner bass traps and 1 psi active bass trap...

Exciting times ahead... the above SMT wings will be pairing the new Lyngdorf MP-50 processor, arriving from Denmark soon, in January19

Stay tuned....

With this 595x595 grid system, I can switch about my atmos speakers, swap out the echophon panels for BAD panels, or put in a vicoustic diffuser panel, lotsa flexibility....mounting for ceiling will be, diffusors-absorption-diffusors, all diffusors at extreme left and right, only 2 pieces exactly 40-50 degrees from centre channel speakers left right wings. this will give me the directivity with wider dispersion and soundstage

Uncle who installed for me, very experienced, he said ok, will help me install The SMT panels as well, very nice!! very cincai also, not calculative, I like

Some samples of the BAD panels in birch ply, arriving from China soon...

This will go onto the grid system flanking the Atmos overhead speakers.

Why I took this route? I’m never a fan of bipolar or dipole , omnipolar or tripolar speakers. I prefer monopoles. But in order to achieve a wide dispersion characteristic with a sense of directivity, diffusion is necessary.  This diffusion panel will sit in front of the echophon panel with a fiberglass backing to absorb bass, then rockwool with an air GAP behind to further absorp lower frequency bass, at the same time diffusing Mids and highs , exactly what I want out from the Atmos ceiling speakers

Placement layout will be diffusors-absorption-diffusors. One exception will be 2 panels place specifically at 50 degree angle from the centre speakers, this the first reflection point of my centre speakers, placing the BAD panels here will bring out the vocals from the centre channel... fingers crossed.. hehe

Unboxing 4 pieces gray version, this display units that we got, looks like new !! Just slightly dusty, wipe it off , but for the price we got on the demo sets, absolutely worth it! By the way, all demo sets whacked by few of us, no more left ...

If there is any demo sets, go for it ! Very good value indeed

This one is actually audiophile stuff, very good for music! I think music lovers will enjoy what this SMT wings bring to the table...

I’m using mainly for HT, but will benefit as well from music...

Ceiling mostly done, still some minor work, today focus mainly on mounting this heavy panels onto the wall, damn heavy

Using the brackets like this to flush mount

The one on TOP goes behind the panel, the one at the bottom onto the wall. Brackets from previous acoustic panels, re use it to flush mount on wall

Almost done, atmos 6 overheads on ceiling...

Front height will be wired in parallel with TOP front ceiling height, which is mounted 150cm in front of MLP. Front height will be all the way in front , tilted and angling towards MLP.  The angle of reflection from the tilt, is where I’ll place the BAD panels...

TOP centre mounted 35cm behind MLP , TOP back all the way to the back....

Front and back will be discrete channels, whilst the TOP center will be a matrixed using lyngdorf mp50, mp50 will post process the signal from back and front to channel to TOP... let’s see how that turns out...

First of SMT up!

Diffusion-Absorption-Diffusion

This is placed exactly behind MLP , the seaton sits just under, 65 cm from ground. Moving another seaton here maybe co locate it...

Here where some of the panels went...above the surrounds

I have the TOP center tweeter angled towards the height mounted SMTs at the surrounds, hoping for a wider sound stage... let’s see how it goes...

The TOP back atmos is angled towards The back of MLP

The TOP front is angled sideways as well

Nice to have Atmos speakers that you can angle left right front back.. versatile...

The above is dihedral mount, this method of mounting will help with bass trap, you can see there is an air GAP to trap longer wavelengths...

This acoustic door is a velocity trap door with mass loaded vinyl, DAMN Effective! Immediately after closing the door, the whole room goes silent, nice... exactly what I want...

More or less done after cleaning up etc.... final front view looks

Still have 2x60cm SMT wings to flank the centre channel... will probably do it later when the Lyngdorf MP50 arrives...still gotta clear and tidy all the messy cables and reposition the speakers for optimum performance ...

NO PAIN NO GAIN.....

This morning I woke up.... walked out to the living room.... wow!! Super silent... I can only hear the wall clock clicking sound, tick tock tick tock ... straight away I can “feel” the room acoustics... nice man ! Can’t wait to pop in some demo scenes

Looks like gotta swap out the wall clock for a digital clock....

Can already “feel” the reverb greatly reduced when I exhale my breath, feels tight and silent , living room feels like studio room now... I presume should be down by at least 10db...

Will measure the room noise floor again when I get the chance... heading for some KEC workshop this weekend... busy busy busy...

Thanks for the heads up, will look around for suitable one. I actually like the analogue ones, want my kids to learn how to look at the time, most likely will move this clock into the room and get one without sound...

The other stuff I got also generates noise, I bought this 5 Bay drive for harddisk for movies, but there is a fan inside that is also generating noise...  wrong move buying this...

No idea bro, haven’t measured ...definitely  much lower

Just popped in a quick CD and had a listen.... speechless... absolutely amazing I can crank up the volume by +10 more db from normal listening, and doesn’t sound loud at all, bass feels very tight, reverb time definitely much improved, how fast ? Haven’t measured, sound stage and livlineness is like in a 3D bubble

This is the first one I’m actually really listening to how the monitor audio speakers sound.. so different

Very very nice ! The best diffusor, worth every single penny spent

Can’t imagine pairing this with the lyngdorf Mp50

There is two in front, energy radiates to left right, then surrounds have 1 each, radiate Again to back of MLP , the 3D soundfield is unbelievable

Only thing is the TV feels very small suddenly,65” like too small for the sound I’m hearing ...

Getting to the levels I want now... much much lower noise floor now...

Cost usd8/piece from amazon, simple to use and effective , brought down the noise floor a great deal, prevents insects from coming in, improves air conditioner air flow from leaking, Delighted indeed....

We try to eliminate anything that contributes to noise floor...

So you can see from the design of the MP50 lyngdorf, it doesn’t have any built in cooling fan, these fans can be noisy, strict NO NO from lyngdorf....

Congrats. Once u able to achieve reasonable silent listening environment without all the reverberations (which I experienced during my visit to your place a few months back)...you do not need to turn up your volume to get that oomph. It saves electricity as well. But NOT too dead “silent” else it kills the overall dynamics.

Exciting time ahead for you.

Yes Pete, these SMT wings are the real deal, I’ll PM you when ready, u can pop by. How is your reno? Has it completed ?

Below are Comments and excerpts from other users, using only 2 SMT wings...

“I haven’t gone through for various range of music genre,But for jazz and live music concert, It sounds very good, And i heard micro details as well, For example, audience talks or those background stage noise that quite micro that i didnt notice before,And my bass also at somepoint i heard less reverberated, something like use psi,But not that much,  I turned on the psi, it’s better.

Another users comments

“Yeah well worth for the money. Test the dts-cd that got voices behind mlp the voices are more focused n clean, now the surround back sounds more like the front spks with bigger soundstage! Can't believe it's real. For front spks test 2ch music now, clarity further improve sound cleaner also, will do some more testing after dinner. 😁😁😁, True, very effective can heard the improvement straight away. Front spks too far from front wall maybe on the side first reflex point.Improvement on clarity make the vocal sound more clean.”

Very very good this SMT , must hear it yourself to believe

You are absolutely right, the Wings offers something that Electronics can never produce... Its just priceless and superb!

Im hearing details and separation so crystal clear that ive never heard before. Even the raindrops hitting the helmet, hitting the rock, all seperate types of sound could be heard. That sort of minor minor details. I have the Tannoy ST200 Super Tweeters sitting in front of the 2 wings, the airiness........... Unbelievable....

my only problem now is that suddenly the 65' TV feels way too small for the sound im experiencing.... sigh....

Bro

Morning Pete, Happy New Year 2019 to you !

I used the grid system like seen on pics, just like how some of the offices do. But you gotta inform your contractor to firmly anchor it, so the grid itself doesn’t rattle playing heavy bass. The contractor I’ve used is very experienced , he installs for acoustics companies, his price is also very good and reasonable, much cheaper than many.

When you put up the rockwool, it’s important to first identify the air flow resistivity of the rockwool you have purchased. Most often, people get confused with looking at the density of the rockwool instead. The lower the air flow resistivity value, the more effective it is. What u want is effectiveness in acoustic properties by using the right material rockwool. Check with the seller the air flow resistivity of the rockwool material

Next, you wanna leave an air GAP between the rockwool and the ceiling. This helps with trapping excessive bass energy and helps improve decay times. Between the rockwool and ceiling, I have an air GAP of 4-8cm, depending on how the rockwool is being stuffed into the ceiling. After mounting the Atmos speakers and cables, stuff all corners of speakers with the rockwool. This will help eliminate speaker boundary interference on ceiling

Finally, on the surface of the grid, u can try some diffusing panels, to reflect the mids and highs, this method will Ensure the room doesn’t sound too dead with all the rockwool stuffed inside. Why on the surface, because mid and higher frequencies have shorter wavelengths and the whole point of it is to scatter the frequencies over space and time. So again, important is to use the right diffusors, a temporal diffusor that scatters frequency over time. In this instance, I picked the BAD panels to do the job

That’s the template....

In short
1) pick the right rockwool material looking at air flow resistivity values
2) leave air GAP between rockwool and ceiling to trap excess bass energy
3) use diffusion on surface to scatter mids and highs without making room sound dead
4) rockwool to fill up GAP of speakers to avoid SBIR issues on ceiling
5) Ensure mounting is effective and tight to avoid rattling. drill extra holes to firmly anchor it
6) try to identify anything that contributes to noise, eliminate it where possible

Enjoy !!

Some info on the SMT Wings, this stuff works in the nearfield as well, this one was posted to you tube

http://www.youtube.com/v/F9ZrSjR_lgA&fs=1

Published on Oct 14, 2018
It is said that the wing diffusors are designed for broadband diffusion in the near field and take benefit of the early reflections. Described in this pdf: www.hakode.se/wing/Wing-concept.pdf

As normally, microphone and listening distance for various broadband Schröder diffusors is 2-3 meters to avoid lobing and combfilter effects. We wanted to try how small "wing diffuser bubble" we could create without experience those negative proximity effects.

We managed to place the microphones as close to the wing panels as 15-20cm with retained absence of the negative effects.

A surprising and cool thing that got stuck on tape was that the placement of the soundsource in the room/the soundstage, was much more precise with the wing diffusors compared to the more unclear soundstage that the dry room revealed.

As mentioned in the pdf, it seems that lack of early reflections make a sound much more difficult to perceive, as they say, in a landscape covered in snow, rather then how everything becomes much more clear and easy to hear and understand, with the dense early reflections present.

In summary, the wing diffusers seem to be an alternative to obtain a high resolution and clarity in very small spaces.

Next up ...

Very high quality Finnish Birch Plywood made BAD panels... Being from Europe, formedylhyde emissions are safe for kids...

This will be ready come weekend, I hope I have the time to mount it, 16 pieces in total. haven’t really measured but definitely 2 pieces of it will sit at 50 degrees above centre channel. Th rest will flank the Atmos in ceiling speakers in a 595x595 grid system. Centre will be further flanked by SMTs... first reflection point on ceiling by BAD panels, floor will be carpet for absorption

Now itself the room feel is so different... taking it up to the next level with lyngdorf soon...

Last night I finally had some “me” time, quickly powered on the system and played a few of my familiar sound tracks.....Prometheus cave scene. I’ve been playing these same clips hundreds of times and I’m Super familiar with every detail, it’s in the back of my head

Last night at absolute silence in the room, I hear so many things not heard before. The quality is unbelievably amazing

Not only the clarity, the midbass is so very clean and it had the texture and speed due to the improved decay times. No settings changed but yet I can feel the bass Attack has picked up. I can already feel the midbass moving left right when the drones were moving in circular fashion, this was not there before. I can now hear clearly the words uttered on the radio walkie talkie, previously can’t really hear what they were mumbling. Then comes the moving effects of the wind storm, blowing from left and extends to the far right. These were all not there before. And even raindrops hitting on the helmets, precision sound specific drops hitting on the helmet on specific areas could be distinguished between the rain coming from the TOP and hitting the ground, rain hitting the body and rain hitting the ground. So much clarity and separation of details, the imaging is superb. none of the demo rooms I visited had this quality, even the high end HK studio with storm didn’t have this type of details I’m hearing. It’s like suddenly, “eh that’s new”... and then listen again... “Wah got such effect?” , it just presents itself, even when they were removing the helmets, click, u get a very soft touch of bass pop, mirroring what u see on screen. I went to bed with the sound firmly imprinted on my mind and it’s such a delight to listen I’m begging for more...

This was all still on the existing ddrc88a with Dirac live, I haven’t even unboxed the Lyngdorf MP-50. I needed to hear the before and after to fairly evaluate the Mp-50. At this moment, I’m having doubts if the Lyngdorf will bring a significant benefit to the set up, but I’m sure Dolby Atmos clips will be in a different league with the MP-50. The above sound track is a dts-hd Ma 7.1 soundtrack , and the ddrc88a with Oppo 205 is just 7.1 playback.

Not bragging but this SMT pairing with BAD panels on the ceiling and dihedral bass traps are the real deal here, tight and much more controlled . I’m very very happy with my living room now, exactly what I’m looking for. 2019 goal achieved .
Particularly the SMT, they work not only in mid high frequencies but also at the bass layers, 200hz, and can be placed nearfield, absolute WORLD CLASS!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Especially the MDF version. The best diffusor for me, totally No Horse Run !

Tips:/ if using a pair, the first and foremost most critical and effective place is to place this 60cm from ground, exactly at the back of MLP. This is the most significant placement for it to shine

Don't let mixing engineers from Media Corp hear that. End up they will do sound mix in your room. The cheaper and the better , they cried!

Enjoy!

lol... very happy now bro, the system now is several steps up with the acoustics.... The acoustics really bring something different to the listening experience, especially the SMT Wings

Again and again ill repeat, Highly Recommended this SMT wings for anyone who is able to have acoustics panels in their room

The above is the room noise floor now, after the acoustics work, nice levels averaging 30db in the hall, that peak at 35hz is the sound of the fan in the room

Above 1khz, it’s all down below 10db, that shows the equipment connected all has very Low noise, great job from the Plixir Elite BAC 3000! Hardly any electrical noise in the chain...

2019 achievement unlocked !

Happy for you. Now it’s time to enjoy.  Don’t spend too much time measuring this and that. Start enjoying and invite more members to enjoy the setup. That’s your next “achievement”.

Wow, amazing!
You’ve achieved <20dB over a wide range, covering the ears most sensitive frequencies.

Lol, half time only bro for me! Still got many things, this weekend will continue to listen and enjoy the system first for the CNY period before the second tweak again... I suppose the tweak will last for another 1-2 months then will know exactly what is good and bad and how else to improve further , for the hall acoustics, that’s done !!

Yes, I go to every single detail wherever there is noise to eliminate it, I’ve missed out a few things actually. after my visit to HK studio, I realised the noise floor or ambient noise in the room contributes significantly to the listening experience, I’ve figured if I can emulate 70% of what’s in that studio room, the journey is already complete, especially the system is in the living room, not a dedicated room...

So answer is yes, it’s possible to have it in living hall, need effort and gotta spend a fair bit due to area of coverage.

But the slightly larger size 8x6m hall is very different from a room set up

Now I can’t just say, oh my room is quiet, then question arise is how quiet is quiet?

So the measurements now confirms my listening experience, in the hall...

It’s also partly due to the power conditioner I’m using, the plixir elite BAC3000, it’s TOP notch stuff as well, u can see there is no electrical noise in the chain...

Still hearing the tick tock tick tock clock in the morning...

Hi,

For the PLiXiR Elite BAC 3000 he is using, it is the horizontal version.  We also make them now in full UK outlets as well.

Thank you.

James.

See this, veritune smt tuning.

http://www.youtube.com/v/GjdACNPLzzg&feature=youtu.be&fs=1

"Veritune" Helmholtz resonators- Adjustable helmholtz resonators allow for specific targeting of modal problems from 16-100 Hz.

Its effective! Placed at locations below the SMT wings

Awesome stuff this SMT

Here is another way of measuring the noise floor levels if you have an iphone , download this free app called decibel x

A quick way to measure, u can look at the peak and min noise floor... above is the noise floor in a badminton hall taken just now...

I’ll post shortly on using the REW method ... hope that helps..

Question -- when you did the above measurement, what was the FFT length, and was the "Adjust RTA levels" checked or unchecked?
I used 131k FFT length, and with Adjust RTA levels checked, my room is about 48dB average.

I notice when the "Adjust RTA Levels" is checked -- the measurement is pretty close to what I see on the iPhone DecibelX app.
I think the "Adjust RTA Levels" need to be checked for noise floor measurement. What do you think?

Use this option when measuring the subs on the fly, using a pink periodic test tone from rew signal generator, then u can choose this option.

When everything is silent, look at the mic levels A weighting Fast... it will display the average noise floor levels in the room

Last night I rewatched the book of Eli, the gun shooting demo clips, superb decay , suddenly I have a “Phantom Wide” channel in my system now, feels very immersive in a bubble now. The widths are much “ enhanced” and “depth” from the sound of bullets is unbelievable and they decay off nicely... feels really awesome

I gotta a shock a few times and thought something dropped off from my from surrounds

Use this setting when you want to adjust subwoofers using the RTA on the fly. This method is good when determining the best combinations between two subwoofers. Play a pink pn (periodic noise) while adjusting the distance on avr/phase controls and look at the big screen for its interaction and adjust the distance/phase until you find the perfect blend.

There is also a DB meter above that shows you the sum of both subs SPL as you adjust the distance/phase

Some reading for SMT Diffusors

http://diffusor.com/PDF/170515_Resolution_Mag.PDF

And some feedback from musicians around the world, taken from SMT page. It’s really that good...

World famous Tuulikki Bartosik found its long-awaited reference Forest acoustics in a small game changing Wing  bubble in Stockholm !!

"For the first time in my life, I heard the harmonics in my instrument and by hearing them I could bring them into my music making.

When I play on my instrument I always sit and try to shape the sound.
But when I sit in the wing room, everything falls into place. I connect with my instrument and my inner self when my soul is in contact with what is around.

Now I completely relax and stop looking for my sound, because it is so clear that I now have access to the full capacity of my self and my instrument, because I now hear just about every detail, just as if I were in the forest.

Except in this studio, this level of detail I have only experienced in my forest in southern Estonia”
