Title: Zidoo Media Players Only
Post by: Wilber on October 23, 2017, 01:36
Hi all,

as you all know from Egreat A10 thread that I've just gotten hold of X9S media player for $150 through Lazada SG and yes, no warranty sadly. The X10 has same specs but it has housing for a 3.5" HDD and with premium aesthetic thus command double of X9S price which i don't find it justifying since it has not much difference from its previous model.

for my case, i gotten X9S because i do not need HDD as i'm using my own server to stream data over to the player. The X9S has extension cable of power and sata so you could connect to a HDD if you want to load your data over.

-4K UHD ISO - menu supported now

-BD ISO - the player has options for you to swap regions without sweat, it played Transformers - The Last Knight Atmos & Train To Busan DTS:X without issues with menu and bitstream correctly to my Marantz 8802A.

-Audio Song - Will Get Back. tested FLAC no problem. will test DSD, DFF later.

-Jukebox/Theatre - It scanned my server and retrieved artwork, pretty surprised it worked beautifully. I was a little worry it won't work as it is on my server instead of HDD. If you don't fancy artwork, just head to explorer and go to your source, set arrange by date, name and etc in ascending or descending order, viola. It makes your search for your movies very easy.

the pictures below shall say it all.........

the package of X9S.

i believe zidoo fans are eagerly waiting for UHD BD Menu too right?!?
yes, it worked.

1) update your firmware to the latest version -> 2.0.15 (http://ota-cloudfront.zidoo.tv/X9S/OTA/OTA-ZIDOO_X9S-v2.0.15-201803082053.zip)
the update firmware will be in zip format.
copy into your usb thumbdrive (ntfs/fat32)
go to update
select local update
select the 2.0.15 update zip
it will copy to the flash.

2) You will see andriod upgrading *Yeah*
(https://preview.ibb.co/iqcdNG/IMG_20180104_165522.jpg)

3) with added function you can disable HDR if you don't like.

4) lastly is what most of you wanted! UHD BD Menu!
you could choose to play video directly or select play menu (previously if you were to press menu, it would play video directly)
don't have to do complicated steps installation to get the menu, i guess is well done for zidoo team.

5) wondering is there atmos/dts:x along with it? you bet.

6) revamped subtitle setting
(https://preview.ibb.co/buunzw/IMG_20180104_234627.jpg)

Music Player 2.0
huge improvement from their previous version, it has more professional interface now and still have room for improvement such as getting DSD to play. (x10 supports SACD iso playback, hopefully x9s would come 1 day this feature)

Playing Flac 96khz/24bit
(https://preview.ibb.co/nAEHhG/IMG_20180104_174113.jpg)

Playing DSF resulted error

Great effort! Jealous to see that Zidoo comes with Android OS 6.0 Marshmallow while my A-10 still stuck at Lollipop! :(
Android 6.0 allows playback of 4K content from Netflix and Youtube as well.

Looking forward to your reivew on this Zidoo. By the way, another media player that sports the same specs and features is the Himedia Q5/Q10 Pro 4K. IIRC bro Sunblock has this. Will certainly like to hear his comments and personal experience with it as well.

Finally almost done with the testing for the Himedia Q5 Pro 550 Yuan and this box (Chinese version) made me poorer by 550 Yuan but it value for the dollar.

Stay tuned

I think you saw the thread start date.  Clicking on the links and reading will show regular updates. Zidoo (Sep 2017, Himedia Oct '16).  I personally owned a Himedia Q5 before.  It suffered from overheat issues and died on me after 1 year plus, so I am not so keen to go back to HiMedia.

I suppose all don't use Sigma chipset for 4k playback at the moment ya? So far I'm using Nvidia Shield gen 1 for 4k playback via m2ts format under bdmv structure. No lag or sort.

About BD menu :

Zidoo X9S/X10
Home theater app supports HD BD menu
Home theater app does not support UHD BD menu
ZDMC does not support HD BD menu
ZDMC does not support UHD BD menu

Egreat A5/10
POSTER V2.0 app supports HD BD menu
POSTER V2.0 app supports UHD BD menu
Vidon supports HD BD menu
Vidon does not support UHD BD menu

if UHD BD menu not important to you, for the price and performance i would recommend getting x9s would suffice.
if UHD BD menu is a must to you, get Egreat A5/A10/A11, look at the Egreat A10 thread.
i hope this helps in purchasing your player.

Personally, I will not recommend members to get the Egreat A5/A10 due to the HDMI licensing issue it faced. Please consider the HiMedia or the Zidoo for peace of mind. :)

Zidoo is almost unheard of, unlike Popcorn, eGreat  and Himedia. Wonder if it is as reliable as Popcorn.

What will be consequences of eGreat if there is no HDMI licensing? The existing unit will still function as is it.

Agreed. Very much would like to know this as well. If there is not much difference other than just licensing issue then I reckon more Bros would be interested in the Egreat.

What I gathered so far is that it will not hinder developments of the media player itself but it will affect some countries which HDMI Org had a firm enforcement over the licensing part. Singapore market AFAIK, it is not affected else I will not be able to get it in the first place.

My concern lies with the future developments on HDMI troubleshooting if there is any kind of bug or updates been enforced along the way and how it may affect firmware fixes etc. Hopefully my concerns will be unfounded...Egreat doesn't seem to be bothered by it? But it does make the consumers rather uneasy though.

Guys, my apologies, I might have gave everyone interested in Egreat media players a "big fright" :P...I will update the status after I receive an official response from Egreat. Meanwhile, for those who can wait, just bear with me a little longer till I get some clear answers and its implications if any. For those who need to get a media player badly, you won't g wrong with HiMedia, Zidoo or PopcornHour.

In principle the HDMI.org ensures all HDMI products undergo defined compliance testing and unlicensed products are not to be sold because they can “damage”  the connecting device eg avr, hdmi switcher,  HDTV, etc.

So will it damage the hdmi port of your connecting equipment?

In short ... it is not a “genuine” hdmi because it is made outside the hdmi specification and the risk is yours to take as this single cable carries audio and video signals from the device to a HDTV or surround sound system.

now this sounds familiar, that's probably why there have been feedback that their avr/tv end hdmi port has been damaged...

Yes, agreed with Bro Sunblock. I will not recommend Egreat A10 to members here if this is indeed the case. Be safe than sorry. Features and functionalities of A10 exceeds my expectations and I'm very satisfied with it performance but risk damaging the AVR is totally unacceptable.

Once again, I urge members to consider getting either the Zidoo or the Himedia at this point.

good news guys.. Zidoo has another upcoming firmware with awesome filled in.
Definitely more promising than other brands of media players right now.

basically, the upcoming HomeTheatre 2.0 is a much better version and you can get rid of using zbmc or whatever you're using as this is going to be much better. it matches better and you can now manage your library even on PC and phone.
the new control center basically all control in your phone or pc and even Control4!

this is based on beta 2.0.5, i don't suggest you to upgrade yet, wait for the stable version.

Player:
1,Add a function to export internal text subtitles from videos
2,Add a Chinese language into media info.

1,Fix some WIFI hotspots cannot be scanned out

Clear:
1,Add a function to manage self-starting APPs

Filemanger:
1,Add a poster view for videos

Blu-ray:
1,Fix selection of audio track doesn't work in some Blu-ray movies.

HomeTheatre2.0

Just received my X9S:)

First impressions,
- build quality is excellent for a $170 player. Very sleek looking
- menu was easy to navigate and use, all in English
- could playback all HDR/4k files easily
- OS is quite fast
- remote is very easy to use too
- HDMI sync and connectivity, pretty good, not much issues.

one issue i faced on video resolution.
>> When i set the video resolution to AUTO and played a 4k/HDR file, the video turned pinkish. I had to manually set it to 2160p 60hz then it will play correctly.

What video resolution setting did you use Wilber?

at last your toy is here! hmm so far for FHD resolution, there was no issue.
i can't comment on 4K now but soon.
anyway, Zidoo is aware of the problem and they will rectify the issue.

perhaps you should just set a fixed resolution instead of Auto now.

I think he means "X10" the model.

I notice that X9s was launched in 2016. X8 launched in 2017, with similar specs. and cheaper and more compact. is X8 worth getting? mainly to play 4K HDR MKV files from thumb drive or HDDs plugged into the USB...

X9S and X10 are catered for home theatre, other models may not provide the same performance as these two. getting smaller because is more for less intensive usage like youtube etc..

i believe zidoo fans are eagerly waiting for UHD BD Menu too right?!?
yes, it worked.

1) update your firmware to the latest version -> 2.0.15 (http://ota-cloudfront.zidoo.tv/X9S/OTA/OTA-ZIDOO_X9S-v2.0.15-201803082053.zip)
the update firmware will be in zip format.
copy into your usb thumbdrive (ntfs/fat32)
go to update
select local update
select the 2.0.15 update zip
it will copy to the flash.

I tried but cannot flash beta firmware. On update tab, there is OTA, USB and something else.
I plug in my USB, select file to update and nothing happens, I am at wits end, what am I doing wrong? Thanks

I actually upgraded it to the latest version after I received it so I cannot compare if it is because of the new firmware.

I noticed on UHD materials only.  If I'm playing HD TV series, it is occupying the whole TV screen.

Hi,

Is it possible to connect an external USB blu-ray / DVD drive to this media player to play BR/DVD/CD disc?  Or it still need a full-feature player machine via HDMI In port and/or only supports content that is converted to AV file formats?

Thanks for any advice / info-share.

Hi,

Update on my problem regarding the vertical black bar on the each side of the tv.  Finally have a time last weekend to check all the settings.  Finally found the culprit.  Under the Settings, Playback menu.  There is a 'Automatic frame rate'  option and it was set to 'off'.  I changed it to 'Switch frame rate and resolution' and the vertical black bar on the side was gone. :)

Bro sevenz,
Since you own A500 and zidoo, do you compare them in term of video and audio decoding capability? Which player support more format? thanks!

I sold the a500 quite immediately and didn't do a AB comparison side by side.

But, for SDR, my impressions are that a500 is better in pq.

Interface wise, i prefer the a500 too. File format support - quite comparable for SDR. And a500 is very established for the software support. No issues at all.

The a500 is still a top notch media player to beat.

But I had to give up the a500 cos I needed HDR support.

If I had a choice, I would keep the a500 if it supported HDR.

But again, the price point is very different. One is 100+ , the other 400+. So also not fair to compare the 2 per se. For 100+, zidoo is hard to beat in terms of performance to price ratio

Thank for sharing bro sevenz! Look like sigma chip still on the of the list.
It is worth to get zidoo with 100+ since file format support is comparable plus HDR supported, but i’m wondering If i were to use the zidoo pass-through audio/video to my avr to do the job, is this still matter in term of pq?

Hi guys, i am still using SonyW800B 1080p TV with Denon x-3000 AVR (think its using HDMI 1.4) ,  If I buy this Zidoo , is it compatible ? any hdmi or hdcp issue ?

Was thinking of buying amazon fire stick, but stumbled on this , seems like more interesting as I can future proof. Hence will be playing 1080p with it, and hopefully can have some 4K movie downscaled to 1080p

I use USB update to this latest beta version.
And now feels better,; the Home Theater old app was only categorise until 2016.

Just realised my X9S tricked me. It stated latest up to date firmware all this while and when I checked here, realised mine was only version 1.4.16  :-\
I use USB update to this latest beta version.
And now feels better,; the Home Theater old app was only categorise until 2016.
The newer 2.0 version of Home Theater app is better!

the online check doesn't work. you've to manual upgrade the firmware.
yes, definitely a big jump for you.. the old and the new fw is quite far apart.

There is a strange issue that when the hdmi range is set to full band, there is some black and white crush.

Zidoo forum members also posted a bit on this. I think zidoo is trying to fix this.

Sounded like an issue with full and limited color band mixed up... Should be easy to fix.

anyone has power off issues after the latest firmware update?

I used to be able to power off upon 2 presses of the power button. ie.
1) press power off on remote
2) then the screen will prompt if i want to power off and some options.
3) I select ok.

But after firmware update, after step 3, it goes back to the main menu again. And i have to press power off on the remote for the unit to really turn off.

The Zidoo Home Theatre shines and is pretty neat (I like it too) whereas the picture quality is a shade lower than the Q5/Q10 Pro in my opinion.

I find Zidoo quite good with my JVC projector after I calibrated the contrast downwards to 28 using some calibration material.

Would wait for sigurros reviews and comparison with his Q10 Pro.

Am dont write long reviews, so

Zidoo - GUI and scrapper definitely wins thr q10 pro .
Everything looks sharper including the posters.

Picture wise dont seems any different to me at the moment since did not play much of it.

Most probably the q10 will be going to thr room setup.

Hi,

Just set up my benq tk800 projector and have this issue of the zidoo X9s not being detected by the projector.

Kept showing "No source".

Don't think is the HDMI cable as my Himedia q10 pro has no issue displaying 4k/60hz to the benq.

Any bros here have this issue with the zidoo?

Thanks

May i know the settings. When you mentioned revert back do you mean factory reset?

Yes. Using monitor 1 to the Benq and monitor 2 a LG TV from a denon 6200.

To the tv no problem. But no signal when using monitor 1.

Possible some setting issues on the zidoo.

no, like the chroma setting 4:4:4 to something else to .. have it set to 1080p back.. then retry 4k and move along.
see where's the break point.

yes, but I'm not sure if this address the root of the issue.

I'm concerned that if we limit the HDMI range, it might affect the entire color gamut too. And not sure how it individually affects SDR and HDR.

But zidoo never reply on this lei... I tried registering on their forum but they havent granted me access. ;/

Received the Zidoo last night and  now find time to play around the settings and sample some videos.  I must say setting up is pretty easy especially connection to my Synology was very quick unlike the Popcorn where you have to set up file sharing.  The PQ is I would say slightly better than my Vten on my 4.5 years old Samsung 4K 1st gen TV.  Happy camper here
Btw, think this is the latest firmware version...

I had first tried 'Auto' for all, and 4K HDR plays in 12-bit, but the picture is really dim (appears they broke 12-bit when fixing 10-bit). When on the main page high light your Apkinstaller and then press menu on your remote button and you will see a pull down page showing all the Apps.  Click the Media Center app and a dialogue box will allow you select it as Start Up.  You can switch around the Apps anywhere you want it.

Thanks! let me try it when I am back home tonight

Go to control center and scan the QR code with your mobile.  Only thing is when you sign off, it will be gone and you have to rescan in order to use it again.

Just managed to try the new HT 2.0. Really love the new HT 2.0. Very nice interface.

Question. If we have multiple HDDs and keep plugging in and out, do we need to rescan everytime for the movie posters to load? Or it will cache it?

Don't think so.  Once you switch HDD, the old source will still be there but on standby (faded color until you delete it) till you plug it in again.  You rescan only if you add more or delete the movies in the target HDD.
I have 3 ext.HDD plugged in (excluding the one in my NAS and 2 other ext HDDs hooked to it).

"Just tested the new v.2.0.34 firmware, and 10-bit output looks good to me, no banding. Below are the settings I used... I had first tried 'Auto' for all, and 4K HDR plays in 12-bit, but the picture is really dim (appears they broke 12-bit when fixing 10-bit). In any case, proper 10-bit is what we need, and this f/w appears to get it right."
quoted from another forum.

@bro sevenz, do test out @ 10bits.
If it's "dim" at 12 bit... Can you check the TV or Projector info pane and see whether SDR content has been up-converted to HDR? This is usually the case of you find it dim.

Happy with the image & sound & nice build quality.

verify that you could get an ip address in ethernet.
return back to Wi-Fi and try the remote app again, it should work. i suspect it has something to do with the ethernet on zidoo or router side.

Manage to get the remote apps on mobile..:)

For NAS access, still works fine with wifi but same issue with wired connection.
The Z9S is directly connected to router port not thru switch, don't think I need further config Syn NAS as Oppo (wired) works fine with it.

Any step I miss?

How do you edit or rescan a movie title in Home Theater 2 ? It scanned and picked a few wrong ones. For those that it could not scan name, it gave option to enter manually (using imdb id is easiest). But those it got wrong, I can't figure out how to change it.

Edit: solution found. Highlight movie icon and hold down OK button.  Then can clear or rematch.

Yes. Can get IP address of NAS on Ethernet.  :)

What is the IP you get from WiFi and Ethernet? Do they share the same 3 sets of numbers in the front? eg. 192.168.1.*, 10.0.0.*, etc.
They need to be on the same Private IP class.

Switching to Cat 7 won't help. I'm running fine on old Cat 5E without WiFi (didn't even bother to screw in the antennas).

Not sure what is the problem with your network setup here as I can see you are still not getting it to work after many members have had chipped in to give all very good and sound advice...Connecting to NAS should be relatively easy. The way I see it, the "physical connection" between your Zidoo Media Player and the Router is not the problem - i.e. network cable is not the issue here. But rather, you should check the following on your router:

1. Is the Router set to to DHCP (I assume it does be default as long as you don't mess with any settings like using Static or run a VPN client in your router)

2. Check the Gateway...usually a Private IP address for consumer-grade router starts with 192.168.1.X or 192.168.0.X...

3. Instead of using DHCP, set up a static IP address that falls within the range of 192.168.1.2 - 253 on your Zidoo Media Player.

4. For the Synology NAS, what network protocol are you trying to connect to? NFS or SMB? For the former (NFS), make sure you allow NFS privilege to your Zidoo Media Player and ensure there is read permission set for guest and ride on the privileges of a local admin.

5. I'm not a Zidoo Media player user so I can't comment on the way it search or gain access to the folder on your NAS. But is there a option that says, Network Search or some sort? If so, hit that button and Zidoo (if connected to the home network IP range and correct gateway setup), it should be able to pick up both SMB and NFS network shares.

One last question, how many router(s) are you using, if more than one, are you connecting to the main or the bridge router? Connecting to the bridge mode, make sure the main router is able to see the secondary router. (I assume you only got 1 router, if so, then this is not an issue)

Router at default. Not using static or run VPN

Gateway is default for Asus router

Using the default IP on Zidoo

Referring to SMB. Did not setup NFS

There's a network scan function. OK in detecting/accessing NAS (by SMB) with Wifi

I am using 2 router, One Main & another as Access Point. NAS is connected to Main router via Switch. X9S is to Main Router connecting to Modem. Not via Switch
My Oppo (205 & 105) can access the NAS via Ethernet based on the same setup.

My reply to Desray is as below;

Did u try connecting the Zidoo media player to the switch instead of the main router?

What is the 2nd router gateway which u set as an AP? Is there a range of IP address u set for the AP?

Is there any reason why u don’t want to use NFS? In fact, NFS is the preferred protocol over SMB. Since Synology NAS support NFS, I strongly recommend u to use NFS.

I have a feeling that the problem lies with the router configuration as there is ONLY a so few workable solution for connection related problems.

It's an Android media player (quite similar to AC Ryan). It has its own movie player program called Home Theater 2.0 (currently). Without installing anything extra, it will already function well. You can still choose to install your own like Kodi or VLC, etc., but I think the built in player is very good already.

Hi desray & X9s users ,
Still no luck with wired connection thru SMB or NFS even with same wiring arrangement (thru switch or Direct Main router) and NAS settings that works for Oppo 105/205.

Maybe other NAS setting issue that I do not know off?  Kindly advise :) :) :)

Sounded more like your Zidoo network port or onboard card got issue as Oppo have no problem recognising the shared folders in your NAS.

Can I ask whether your Zidoo is able to provide a IP address using wired connection in the first place? Not talking about wireless connection here.

Did u do a ping to the IP address assigned by Zidoo from your main PC using wired connection?

you might still able to run it, but actual may not consume that much if you don't run internal HDD/usb hdd.
if you plug usb hdd/internal hdd, i suggest you get higher ampere else it might not power properly.

Of course no issue for now but on a long term basis, your 1.8A adapter will heat up faster and it will be very warm on the touch which is not a proper way to power the Zidoo's as it will shorten the life span!

Hello. Just received my Zidoo from 1111 Lazada sale. May I know if there will be any issues if I were to use my ifi ipower 12v/1.8A power supply? I am currently using it for my popcorn hour a400 without issues. Not sure if it has enough 'juice' for the Zidoo or not.

Previously using ifi with my pch a400. Color looks deeper. I didn't use the stock power supply with my Zidoo before to do a proper comparison.

Dunno if other Realtek chipsets use the same upscaling algorithm - but the one on the Zappiti is tremendously good. Most users recommend setting output to Source Direct (like 720p/1080p) and letting the Sony Reality Creation work - but the Zappiti one does a noticeably better job - especially with macroblocking removal

Thanks. That’s not just a media player anymore. That’s entering the Oppo universal player sphere with a little more flexibility in playback f media files. With Top of the class DAC. This is definitely value for money. I noted that it is still using Realtek chipset.

Do share your reviews with members here in due course. Enjoy your new toy.

Yes, it will be removed from the Zidoo media player upon re-scanning of the library or upon next reboot of the media player. BUT if you are using DLNA, then it may not work as intended. Preferred network sharing protocol to ensure almost one-to-one identical library files will be to use NFS sharing. Its less resource intensive and you also achieve faster throughput rate for higher bitrate media files.

First impressions with the X20 Pro sounds like a very capable CD player. Still not used to not have a DAC. But considering my is a Emotiva Stealth anything will sound better.

Overall it plays a little louder and better separation. Bass extension is wow. It might not sound as great as a stand alone DAC but give it a good amp with XLR it should perform as stated.

Video I haven't really watch any bluray but quality should be better then the Egreat. Apps now behave properly instead of mobile version.

Looking forward to get one for myself...but hard to swallow spending $1K for a MIC media player. But having say that, this is definitely a winner by all account compared to other rivals (at this junture)

You can always sideload apk but only drawback is for you to keep abreast of the latest revision (updates) since there is no Google Playstore to do auto-update.

I didn’t venture to this unit because DRM licensing is still non existence and don’t expect anything mite than 480p (SD) playback from streaming services like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix (need to side-load this App). In my opinion, this is probably the only aspect that leaves  lot to be desired since a better DRM support could have place Zidoo as an all in media media player/TV Box.

If i m not not wrong, it is running on Android 6.0  which is primitive basing on the current available version of Android OS.

Having said that, Zidoo has released a Google Apps installer for Play Store integration but you must must have 1.7.8 firmware version or newer to install this Google Apps installer which I believe can auto-update chrome.

Okay will wait for the new firmware with android 7. But for streaming 4K only Android TV supports. No other 3rd party boxes does. Streaming Netflix is best done on the TV itself.

As of today, only aware of 4 notable brands of TV Box capable of streaming 4K Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

1) NVIDIA Shield TV 4K HDR Streaming media player
2) Five TV & TV Cube 4K Ultra Hd Streaming media player
3) Original Xiaomi Mi Box 4K Ultra HDR TV streaming media player
4) Apple TV

The biggest headache or stumbling block is “Netflix Approved” certification on the HEVC chipset the device uses and the other important requirement is Google certification. For the box to be certified, it has to support Google’s WideVine L1 (level 1) DRM otherwise is a NO NO for streaming 4K Netflix.  This is the reason why most MIC media players are not L1 certified and likewise not all UHD TVs can stream Netflix 4K.

You can download the DRM info tool from
Google Play Store and check up on the “Security Level” whether it makes the Level 1 grade. Unfortunately most Android boxes available today is Level 3 and this equates that it can’t stream Full HD Netflix and 4K Netflix video.

Finally got around to installing the Z9S in my HT.

I must say the Home Theater 2.0 app is excellent. The colours are very accurate, the poster wall is getting better all the time with the firmware upgrades since launch (most recently 2.1.22 in beta) and I have yet to find a single bluray menu which did not work (I have about 170 1080 and 4k bluray ISOs in my NAS).

Music Player 3.0 app is another story. It plays the files okay but the scraper part of it sucks big time. After many many tries, I still cannot get it to complete the scraping (I probably have about 90 albums in the library) and the sorting is all over the place! Not sure if I am doing something wrong and if others have got it to work properly. I hope they fix this fast.

To overcome, there is another method...the sequence you fired up your source and display may hold the "key" or solution to Kelvinsin's woes. Usually on the display then followed by the AVR and lastly the source. In that manner, it will "retain" the last resolution settings. That's my own observation using Egreat A10. As always, I might be wrong, users of Zidoo may have a better solution.

As you are probably aware that all streaming apps has its own settings and if you can advise the streaming app the z9s is using then members can try to replicate the problem with their unit.

Happened to pass by a local shop that sell Zidoo X9S and decided to give it try to see the Realtek chipset perform on video and audio. Since it comes with local 1 year warranty and the price although slightly more expensive compared to ordering from abroad. In terms of build and ports, it lose out to Egreat A10.

not sure would that be a fair judgement given the 2 products price difference a lot.

Wilbur, I'm just stating the obvious but it is what the internals that count. On mere appearance, there is no denying that Egreat A10 built like a tank (hence cost more than Zidoo X9S). Unfortunately, Egreat has lagged behind Zidoo in terms of software development. Its stable version still riding on Lollipop (5.1).

Anyway finished setting up everything and first impression is the PQ is much better than Egreat A10 (the Realtek RTD1295 chipset) does a better job when it comes to video reproduction. A little bit finicky on the change frame rate and resolution on the fly. The HT 2.0 software is much more refined and intuitive than Egreat's s/w player. The Music Player 3.0 is also very well implemented. Overall a very nice media player at an affordable price range.

The MAIN REASON I'm buying this is for PQ comparison and Zidoo X9S did not fail to impress me in this department. Very well done. Anyway I have pushed Egreat to release a firmware equivalent to what Zidoo can do and hopefully it can deliver. I just realized Zidoo X9S still in Android 6.0.1. I have the impression that it is on 7.1.1 Nougat.

Now that I have a better experience of using BOTH (Egreat and Zidoo)...I think I can safely say each have their own strengths and uniqueness. In due course, I will probably sell off one of them.

well i think eventually they will hop to andriod 7 but more importantly is to get their main priority as a media player to be better.

Been using the X9s.

Contemplating whether to "upgrade" to the Z9s due to the chip.

But has read that the difference is only on the ports connections (Z9s having more) and the fine tuning features for HDR sources for the Z9s.

Anyone has both to comments any PQ or SQ difference?

Cheers

Yes. But if improvement is minute, then will stick with the X9s.

I have both. Z9s has better hdr to sdr conversion control. But one biggest downside of z9s is it will cause the arc function in ur system crashed. This been reported by many users including me, i still dunno how to fix it except power off the z9s when need use arc for other devices

Marina square. There is this mama shop directly below the food court. Left with one last unit when I visited them yesterday during lunch hours.

I paid $220 but with 1 yr local warranty. Within 1 yr if any issue, he will do a one to one replacement for either current model if not, the next model (Z9S).

Just a quick update on Zidoo PQ performance...It appears that there is a black crush when everything set to Auto under the Display options like Colorspace and Video levels like 16-235 or 0-255. To overcome this, one will have to select 16-235.

the display setting a bit finicky. need to mess around. plus the video output hasn't perfected by zidoo yet. there're bugs to be fixed.

Some more bugs, not every BD ISO or BDMV folder can play with no issue. Those having problems usually unable to load to the main menu at all but my Egreat have no problem loading it. I also found that sometimes when trying to play the BD ISO, it will play certain segments of the movie before loading the disc menu. Likely due to the beta firmware I’m using? But this has never happen in my Egreat before. While I liked the Home Theatre 2.0 app especially its interface when playing the movie itself but the user interface functionality is rather limited. It only allows changing of wall poster size at the home page. Having said that, I must say that the Egreat app is no better either but it allows user to choose either list mode or poster mode by default.

Hi. Can I just check, if I have a movie residing in the same folder together with the rest of the movies in my NAS but Zidoo just cannot detect and add it. Anyway to manually add it in?

Can you create a separate folder with the movie name and house the clip inside that folder? Does it work?

yes, done that already. I even set that folder as one of the sources but Zidoo still refuses to auto detect and add.

Can you check whether the scrap source is using TMDB instead of Intelligent?

Alternatively you can load up the NFO files of that movie to parse.
